Alderman Alison Gowman has been a Plaisterer Liveryman since 2008 and began her year in office on 16 July 2019. Prior to becoming a Warden she chaired the Plaisterers’ PR committee and still manages the Plaisterers’ Twitter account @Plaisterers.
Her theme as Master is “Linking the Livery with the City of London” which will reflect her interests and involve the Plaisterers Company in many more of the City’s events.
Alison has practised as a solicitor in the City all her working life specialising in commercial property at international law firm DLA Piper. She was the first female partner at her firm and combined a senior partner role whilst representing the Ward of Dowgate first as a Common Councillor from 1991 – 2002 and thereafter as the Alderman of the Ward.
Alison has served on most of the City’s committees and is now a member of the Police Authority Board, the City Bridge Trust (Chair 2016 – 19), Investment and Capital Buildings Committees. She is a Governor of the Museum of London which has led her to choose the Museum as her charity this year.
Alison is a Director of the newly formed Green Finance Institute and is promoting green finance with a particular engagement in Brazil and Peru. She chairs the Active City Network that is a business network that encourages safe walking and cycling in the City to create healthy streets and promote wellbeing.
She is a trustee of Trust for London, an independent charitable foundation that aims to tackle poverty and inequality in London. She is also a director of the Museum of London Archaeology.
Alison enjoys City cultural life to the fullest and especially the theatre and opera. Out of town she spends a lot of time walking and an annual cross country skiing trip to Norway.
