The Master and Clerk made a trip to Highgrove in late February to see our King's Foundation Student, Jess, working on the live build in the grounds of the House. She and her fellow craftsmen are six weeks into the design and build of a drying hut for traditional plants and herbs.

It’s a pretty special hut though; an eight-sided construction (an octahedron), built using traditional skills from stonemasons, carpenters and a host of other craftsmen, including Jess. On the visit, she was in the process of starting the outside plasterwork using goat’s hair and plaster. Eight sides, inside and out to complete! She has also designed some plaster artwork that will be placed on the outer walls that depict many of the plants that will be dried in the hut.

They have two weeks left, and while it will be tight to finish on time, they are confident it will be. Their excitement and pride in the build was infectious.
