Celebrating the Craft, Heritage and Future of Plastering

Wednesday 13th May 12.30 – 5pm

As part of London Craft Week, Plaisterers’ Hall opens to the public for a free event celebrating the art of plastering. Visitors can explore one of the City’s most impressive livery halls while discovering plaster as a skilled craft with deep cultural roots.

The afternoon features live demonstrations by highly skilled craftspeople, offering insight into heritage and conservation plastering, decorative and fibrous plasterwork, and architectural finishes. Traditional materials, including lime and pargeting, will feature alongside contemporary applications, showing how long-established techniques continue to shape modern interiors and public spaces. Plus, our Have-a-Go workshop will guide guests through the process of creating their own plaster mould to take home.

Plaisterers' Hall, the largest Livery Hall in the City, is home to the Worshipful Company of Plaisterers, a philanthropic Livery Company that focuses on support for Heritage Plastering. The Hall features plasterwork based on Robert Adam’s 18th-century neoclassical style, clearly demonstrating that the art and craft of plastering is still very much alive, and that today’s plasterers have the same skill and level of perfection of those who were practising 200 years ago.

Sponsored by Best of Lime and Rose of Jericho, this open day reflects the Plaisterers’ Company’s ongoing commitment to sharing knowledge, supporting craftsmanship, and ensuring that plastering continues to be understood, valued, and practised for generations to come.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Join us at Plaisterers' Hall on Wednesday 13th May to see these master makers in action. Simply drop in between 12.30pm and 5pm to explore the Hall and discover the beauty of plaster craft.
